Don’t Touch Me.
150cm x 100cm, Oil on Cotton Canvas. 2025
When Woman says “Don’t Touch Me”, she means it.
This painting explores sexual violence and revenge fantasies through the new, imagined mythology of Woman. The Snake, protector of Woman, holds the head of a perpetrator who appears to have tried his luck- from this image we can see he did not get far. This painting is a revenge fantasy concocted through my own experiences with sexual assault, depicting the prevention I, and many a Woman, secretly wish we could take.
Woman does not touch the head herself, because Snake takes care of all troubles. The severed head, dangling limply, becomes reminiscent of a trophy, that of a hunted animal. The predator becomes helpless prey. Woman stands naked without an ounce of sexual insinuation, relaxed, confident, and comanding. Her nudity inspired by Gaesatae, ancient Celtic warriors who entered battle nude, as a display of confidence and fierceness. Woman looks on, straight at the viewer. Cross her, and you’re next.
