Each year in Galicia, on the night of the summer solstice, we light fires. We jump over one, seven times, to cleanse ourselves. With each jump, we ward off darkness and evil spirits.

In this series, the meiga,the evil witch- evil woman- jumps over the fire defiantly. She floats and taunts, cleansing herself, ready to ward off evil men who wish to burn her. But they can’t touch her. The fire is her playground, Woman’s birthplace.
